Christmas is coming

So the Chicks are starting to amass massive amounts of stuff for the Christmas Giveaway. It feels good to do something normal in this abnormal world we are living in right now.

Every year, CRC gives away Christmas gifts to our more than 80 nonprofit partners so they can play Santa to their clients. You would not believe how many people are forgotten during the holidays. There are people who get nothing on Christmas Day.

So the last couple of weeks, we’ve started contacting all the companies that generously provide us with Christmas gifts. Yesterday, I was at M&M Wholesale, where we get lots of stuff for pennies on the dollar. This year it will be jewelry and children’s books and stocking caps and I’m not sure what all. Sadly, M&M does not have underwear, the most requested “gift” by our agencies. Anyone want to gift CRC with massive quantities of panties? Please?

Today, I am visiting another company that has stuff for us. I was going to just give you all the names of the firms that donate Christmas to us, but then I thought better of it. It’s taken a lot of elbow grease to cultivate these folks. A girl has to keep her secrets.

We do the Christmas Giveaway in early December in time for our nonprofit partners to have their holiday parties for clients. One of the nicest gifts we get in December is the unofficial nonprofit schedule. After the parties, many nonprofits shut down for the year. They’ve done all they can do. And we’ve done all we can do. So we take the rest of December off. Unless somebody needs something. Truth be told, we’re never actually “off”. And that’s not a bad thing.

About CRC Nashville

Who are we? We are literally two chicks - Catherine Mayhew and Betsy Everett, and a warehouse - the Community Resource Center (CRC). In short, CRC is a non-profit organization that provides household goods, furniture, and appliances to people in desperate need. Think of us as Robin Hoods – without the stealing. Catherine is a former journalist and Betsy is a marketing chick. We are both devoted to acquiring stuff – good stuff, no junk – because that’s what our most fragile citizens deserve. If you have metal desks, televisions that don’t work or underwear you don’t want anymore, don’t give it to us. We’ll sneer at you. If you are companies that have excess primo stuff like furniture in good condition, school supplies, personal hygiene items or pretty much anything else, we’ll be your new best friends.
